So I keep reading these post asking can I use att next if I want to use Apple in store pick up? The answer is yes here's how:

Select the phone and carrier on the site along with the store that has in store pick up.

When it comes to the option of how you would like to upgrade( att next 12,att next 18, 2 yr, and partial subsidize price) click either 2 yr if your eligible but if your not 2 year eligible click partial it will be high in price.

Here's how you swap it once you get to the store let the apple person that you need to swap your pre order to next. They will then bring the phone out cancel the order and re-do the order using att next. The phone never leaves your sight durning this.

They were able to do that today with me with my plus 64gig until they had a system problems. But it did work just have to go back and sign everything this week. I typed this using my 6 plus so I am proof it works.

Hmm, might have to try this tomorrow. I asked an Apple employee today and he confirmed that they cannot do in-store pickup for the ATT Next plan.

Does your credit card still get charged once you select in-store pickup? I'm wondering if they gave you a refund when they cancelled your initial order.

Yes it gets charged once you place the order and goes right back( as long as it's credit and not debit) Once it's returned

Can anyone else confirm that they were able to do this?
I have placed a order for Iphone Plus pick up at my local apple store for the subsidized 2-year contract. And hoping that Apple will let me cancel and do AT&T Next with the same device.

I really doubt they'll be able to let you do that.

I'm sure if they were able to do that it'd be an option when you checked out in the online store.

How to order in store pick up using att next

I was able to this same thing yesterday at the Oxmoor store in Louisville, Ky. It took a while, but they were awesome. Absolutely the best customer service experience I have ever had.

Call the store your thinking about reserving at and ask them. Not sure all would do it, but think most would.

Do not take what Apple.com chat or customer service tell you as fact. They will tell you it can't be done. They are ignorant on the subject.

That's the key I guess, finding a store that knows how to and is willing to do this.

Tempting to try as my wife's order for a 64 GB/SG isn't due to ship until the 2nd week of Oct. and there are apparently plenty of AT&T branded devices at Apple stores where I am right now (Silicon Valley).

But, since I see other Oct. orders are resetting to ship early, I'll probably wait a few days to see if mine does first. I placed it about a week ago so there's hope.

Anyone know how long it takes for AT&T to reset one's account for upgrade availability once an online order is cancelled?

Eligibility takes about 5 minutes to reset after canceling the order. Mine was reset a couple of times on Friday and Saturday. 5 minutes each time. Of course YMMV. Good luck.

What if I just walk in an apple store that I know has inventory? Can I purchase via Next?

yup no problems at all

i was able to do it, the reason why they don't let you do it on line in due to prior next customers that need to ship the old device back. The apple system has no way to tell in store.
