You can't overclock an Imac CPU! You just don't have acces to the FSB generator. plus there's heaps of other stuff as 88 king discribes in his post.

But saying that an all in one can't handle overclocking or overclock non k intel CPU's is nonsense because you can even overclock laptops where heat is even a bigger issue and you can overclock standard non k cpu's over the FSB but only by a small margin of around 5%.

Overlocking the BCLK is a bad idea, as it can lead to instability with things like USB, SATA etc. 5% is probably pushing it, and even that would lead to an overclock of a 100Mhz or so. Ultimately not worth it.

For some reason, I completely overlooked whether or not the CPU had an unlocked multiplier. That is okay, because today I returned my iMac to the Apple Store, and my boss let me keep one of the office 8-core mac pro towers since we are switching to Windows in a few weeks. Now I can't wait to get home and try out the ZD net OC tool.

Wow, sweet deal! That will be much better for tinkering. Mac Pros are so well-organized inside. I love the slide-out daughterboard tray and the drive bays.

I would hesitate to over clock the processor in any iMac because of the case design and possible consequences of increased heat. But that's just me. If I were looking to over clock a processor it would be in a Mac Pro with the old silver aluminum case. Much better cooling.
