How to play AVI files on a mac?

i have avi files that i want to play on a mac. what is the simplest way of getting my mac to play it? Any plugins. thanks guys!

I install Perian.

Another recommendation is VLC. It's on every major platform and will play every codec known by god or man! It's the real... yano.

I'm able to play AVI files with Quicktime (almost all of them, anyway). You could also use VLC Player, it's free.
