If you're talking about SMS/MMS, no there isn't a way, unless your telco provider will block a number for you.

If you're jailbroken there are apps - iblacklist comes to mind, that will block calls, sms and mms.

If you sign up for Google Voice and give out the GV phone number instead of your normal cell number, it also has these capabilities. (Of course, that's not much help for someone who's making unwanted contact already!)
