I don't know how to use it some say apple 40 80 rule and some say 20 80 rule although I don't understand how these rules works or how to prolong its life, so any help ?

Best advice is: Charge your MBP to 100%. Don't use the MBP. = Great battery life.

Don't worry about it and use and enjoy the machine. I would say that letting it drain 100% doesn't do it any favours or leaving it 100% all the time but otherwise it will be fine. Follow the steps apple provides on their website.

OP:

Are you one of those people who "leaves it connected to the charger" all the time...
or...
Are you someone who "uses it unplugged" and plugs in the charger only when needed?

If you're of the former, remember that the battery "needs exercise" (for lack of a better term).
At least twice a week, take it OFF the charger and run it down to, say, 40-30%, then re-connect the charger.
Post a note on your kitchen cabinet: "Mondays and Thursdays are battery days".

OSX never keeps battery at 100% all the time, it lets it drop to 96 and charges it back to 100 from time to time when it notices that computer is connected to AC for extended periods of time.

Honestly, best is not to think about it at all.

I tend to leave it on charger all the time I'm using it.

I tend to leave it on charger all the time I'm using it.

This is what I did with my work laptop. Very occasionally I'd take it off the charger when going to a client meeting or something. There was no discernible damage to its battery life after three years (compared to my personal machine, which was discharged and recharged regularly due to the commute). I'd say "don't worry about it" is the right attitude. The power management software does a good job of keeping the battery healthy no matter how you abuse/use it.

Add another vote about not stressing over it.

If you use it constantly plugged in, my main suggestion is to unplug it when you have it turned off. If you go for several days without using it, you battery will keep a drain/recharge cycle of 4-5% and those mini charges will add up to extra charge cycles (of 100%) even though you aren't using it.

Otherwise, honestly I wouldn't worry about it too much. It's not worth the stress, as the battery should last just fine, and if you are using it plugged in most of the time anyways battery life likely isn't as crucial to your productivity for the most part.
