Are they his kids? i.e is he their parent?

Perhaps you fail to understand the meaning of "Grandparent"

My dad has his grandchildren over at times and he has his iMac on a coffee table.

Grandparents usually love their grandchildren & work together with their offspring in parenting their children.

But then again , in many cases they turn over their power to help and choose complacency.

All validated by excuses such as you've provided.

Still laughable by any account. You're putting parental responsibility onto a grandparent, I'm sure he's not their full time and sees them on occasion, how the heck is he to parent them? If you had kids you'd know that a person who they see every now and then is not in a position to control their behaviour in any significant way.

Your statement is just hap-dash and full of it.

I read a story about someones alienware laptop that was sitting on the coffee table. the kids were in the room playing with a ball. not a hard ball like a softball or baseball, a very soft ball. at first they were just rolling it back and forth. eventually it ended up hitting the lid of the alienware and broke the back light.

the imac on the coffee table makes me think of that story. all it takes is to get banged the wrong way.

It's too late for a condom!!!

Joking aside, there are plexi-glass cover that you can put on flat screen tv to protect them, maybe there are some for computers too. But like others said, vesa mounting it on the wall will get the job done.

But the easiest way would be to tell them not to touch the iMac? I have 3 kids, 2 of them are 6 years old boys and they play all the time in my home office and there have never been any accident with my iMac and I bought it 3 years ago. Besides, the screen is pretty tough, unless they trow something very hard in it like a car toy or something, it is not going to break. How old are they?

My main concern would the possibility that the iMac would fall from the table if the kids move the table while playing around ---> vesa mount on the wall

If they trow something on the iMac, get back at them by spraying them with holy water, that will teach them.
