hi- I want to upgrade the hard drives of some 4th generation ipods I have of different Gb's.I've seen some information on the web about it which is not clear.I want to upgrade them with an Micro SD Universal Flash TF Memory Cards HC Class 10 and want to use CF Compact Flash Card To 1.8" ZIF/CE HDD Adapter For iPod 5G 6G Toshiba CE Video and than put the micro cards in an sd adaptor card and place this in a Extreme CF CompactFlash Card Adapter SD SDXC SDHC WIFI SD Type I CF up to 128GB. The way I think I understand it is if it is going in a 30gb ipod-than the number of partitions should be along the lines of 30GB each? I have both a mac and a pc-and am unsure the way I would need to formatt the new micro card-like mac journelled etc as the info I have read is confusing about this? I am also not sure if the above micro card would only work with a flash (usa) type adaptor which are a lot more expensive? I just wondered if you could give me some advice about this as the information on the web is very unclear/confusing how to do it? thanks

Hi,
I guess your 30GB iPod is an iPod Photo. You Need a 50 Pin IDE to CF Adapter and a CF to SD Adapter. Just format the SD Card to FAT. iTunes (PC) should see the iPod as PC formatted. Restore the iPod via iTunes. Use USB Cable, not FireWire.

thanks Torsten-but have a mac so could i just formatt it like mac OS Extened ( journelled) I think it's called? And if the micro Sd card is like 128 gb-and it is a 30 gb ipod I think I need to partition it by dividing the 30 into 128-so it should have 5 partitions? I think i read that somewhere but can not find where saw it? Have tried to do this recently but it was not recognising the micro ssd card-I have bookmarked a site which tells you what to do to a micro card which I will have to try and do I think? yes i realised i have the wrong adator thing for it and have requested the right ones.

Hi,
you don't have to partition the sd card. Just format it. I use disk utility on my mac and I choose MS-DOS (FAT), maybe ExFAT also works. I also choose MBR (Master Boot Record). Then plug in the USB Cable and iTunes will recognize the iPod as Windows partitioned iPod. Just restore the iPod with iTunes and every partition that is needed will be created.
You need this adaptor: 50 Pin 1,8 Zoll IDE Adaptor
You also need a CF to SD Adaptor

Regards
Torsten
