Yes I've managed to crash a mac a few times in my short usage tenure on a mac...both the current 20" imac with 2 gig ram and a powerbook 12" G4.

The power button and the force quit doesnt do much. There is no cold boot option short of pulling the batter our power cord out (in the case of the imac) which is what I ended up doing.

On PCs when u hold the power button down it will shutdown the pc when it crashes but it doesnt do that for a mac...so if and when I crash a mac again...what should i do? Is pulling the power cord or taking the battery out the only option?

    Thanks

the power button should work just hold it down for more then 10 seconds will always switch it off - if this is not working then maybe you need to speak to an apple repair center

Wait a little longer then. It should power the machine down, then you can just power the thing back up.

What I wish is the reset button back, like they had in the good old days! LOL

hold it down until the machine powers off. isn't this the same with most laptops anyway? press the button, get the shutdown menu...hold down the button to turn it off.

When's the last time you did a disk repair by booting off of the install CD/DVD? That may resolve some of your crash problems.
