So I recently decided to revive the ole Powerbook by replacing the hard drive, and I even found the original CD it came with. However, when I turn it on, the CD won't load into the slot, I think it's broken.

I do, however, have an external hard drive and another mac, so I was wondering if there was another way of loading the OS onto there via firewire or something?

If the Mac supports target disk mode with a firewire cable you can connect it to other Mac and it will be seen as an external HDD.
Put your portable in Target Disk Mode while booting holding the T key.

I'm not sure how to get it from the CD to the new hard drive even if it's loaded in target mode

Okay Many years ago I downloaded a DMV of 10.4. I mounted the image on my main computer and transfer all the to a external FireWire drive. Plugged it into my g3 and booted from the FireWire drive and it started the install.
