How to remove battery

So I have a late 2008 unibody MacBook and I'm trying to take off the battery to upgrade hdd and ram but the battery doesn't have the white tab to pull on. How should i get the battery out safely?

You do not need to pull on the tab, you could use your finger nail or a plastic card to get behind the battery and thus leverage it that way.
