iPhone X How to retrieve deleted iMessages

i also have thought that once deleted its no recovery (after all, being able to that is a feature of iCloud Messages)
but i wonder if Messages are backed up to Time Machines? and how to recover threads of Messages that way?
The OP mentioned that there hasn’t been any backup but a time machine backup would have worked.
The Messages app shouldn't be used as an archival storage depot like email. Get out of the habit of keeping conversations for longer than a week or so. Eventually everyone (or almost everyone) will invariably get burned attempting to keep long ass conversations that scroll forever
Exactly! I keep saying that to everyone who comes to me with similar issue.
You mentioned in your original post that you don’t have a backup also selective restore is not possible either way. It’s all or nothing.
If the message you need is present in that old backup then possibly you’ll be able to.
Perhaps with something like iMazing or PhoneView, that will open iPhone backups. Do you encrypt them?
I did the same thing - deleted a very important contact card when updating info from a close friend who sent me his new contact info - new phone, new adress
I deleted the contact card and made a brand new one with-out thinking - big mistake - lost 7 years or more of text threads and pictures exchanged - poof
Tried all the above including iMazing and searching weekly back ups (Clones)
There is no way to so this as far as I could tell (I hope I am wrong) - the iMessage info is burried in the (Hidden) library folder in a convoluted nest of folders that are pretty much impossible to use to restore any past info
