I got an XServe G5 (single 2 Ghz) some months ago that was untested. When I got it, I tried to start it up but it appeared to be completely dead. No lights would come on, no chime, no nothing. Now I've done a bit of troubleshooting. Removing the PRAM battery, removing RAM and HDDs, even reseating the CPU but nothing. The only thing I can hear is a "click" sound from the PSU when I plug/unplug it into an outlet which I assume to be some sort of a relay. Now, is my PSU dead? Am I missing something else? If it's the PSU, is there any way to fix it (because I won't be able to find a replacement)?

Try this before tearing apart your power supply:

FWIW, my G5 had the exact same symptoms. Push the button, hear a click and the fans twitch, but that's it. Recapping the PSU brought it back to life. The click is the overcurrent protection relay inside the PSU turning it instantly off.
