Hi,

I have a Macbook Pro 17 early 2011 which I have recently updated to OSX Sierra. I'd like to run diagnostics on the machine as it has been running slowly, but pressing D is not working. I gather I have fallen into the void of machines that are older than 2013 but have a recent version of OSX. What would be the easiest way for me to run diagnostics on this machine?

Thanks in advance.

That is strange and must be a change with Sierra. On my 2011 with El Cap, holding 'D' still launches the Apple Hardware Test. Have you tried option-D? If not, do you still have the original Snow Leopard or Lion DVD disk that came with the computer? I believe that on one of the disks is the AHT.

Well that was resolved quickly! Holding the option key did work. I read that only newer Macbooks or Macbooks with old copies of OSX (but not old Macbooks with new OSX) could run the AHT. Thanks!
