Hi

I am expecting to set up a new iPhone over the next few days.

Is there a way I can keep my texts from the older phone? I understand I probably can't transfer the texts to the new phone, but would like to save some of the messages.

Let me explain: there are a lot of messages on my phone which contain photos of my baby nephew. Is there a way to back the photos up? I have not saved all of the photos on to my camera album.

Is the only way I can save them by pressing save on each and everyone?

Do backup to iCloud and/or iTunes prior to getting new phone and then setting up?

I don't think iMessages backup to iCloud but don't know about the Mac. However - I just found a quick way to save the photos (it's mainly what i wanted). You just go to DETAILS and save quickly. Will back up my phone and the photos will be on it!

But thanks for yours response!
Sorry, my error. Should have double checked. Everything but messages are saved in cloud/iTunes. Since notes are saved I wrongly assumed same with messages.
Greetings from TO.

Further wonder if you have other Apple machines, eg. IPad or MacBook? iPhone messages and any photos replicate on them.

Yes I do have a mac and I have an iPad. I wanted to restore from iTunes so it's quicker but for some reason it said I couldn't because my backup was corrupted. Not sure why but oh well. So I restored from an icloud backup from that evening. It ended up being fine, just took a long time and I saved the photos down anyway.

But one thing to note. It's now 11:00 am (in the UK) and I did this at around 10/1030pm on Tuesday night - so a day and a half a go. And on the lock screen, at the bottom, it still says "restoring from icloud backup". Is this normal?

My apps had transferred the night before - what is transferring now?

(1) messages on iPhone should have replicated to other machines automatically previously
(2) can't possibly be still restoring this long. iPhone only holds 128G tops. If you managed to save photos, great.
Initially thought you lived in Toronto, Canada as well? Cheers!

If not done it never will be.

Forget the CLoud backup and make a new back up via itunes. Everyone of your photos and texts will be restored to your new phone.

I'm from Toronto - so my love of the city lives in my name, but live in London now. Figured you're Canadian too with your name! Thanks for all of your advice. May backup to itunes tonight and try this!

Thanks - will try this tonight. It's worrying that it still says that!

It's annoying my restore from itunes didn't work initially. That would have been much faster!

Way faster. It only took like 5-6 minutes from my 6+ backup to populate my new 6S+ and it worked great. I still use the cloud but just for the nightly incremental backups.

Agreed! I just hope a backup takes place from the iphone 6s as it still thinks it's restoring!
