Topic pretty much says it. If I play a song while connected to wi-fi, is there a way to save that beat so that I can re-play it while I'm away from a network?

I am wondering this same thing.
I have tried copying the song to the TTR folder, but that doesn't seem to work

SSH into your touch (not giving instructions, look around the boards) and download the song you want from this index. Copy the file into var/root/Media/TTR/Taps. Then, find the music file of the song you just downloaded the tap for, paste it into var/root/Media/TTR/Music, and rename it to have the same name as the "tap file". For instance, if the tap file is "My Chemical Romance - Dead!.tap", the music file has to be named "My Chemical Romance - Dead!.mp3 or whatever format you are using. Restart TTR and the song should be in "Downloaded Songs".
