Because Spotify doesn’t pay the artist well at all (example: Taylor Swift), doesn’t put users first (no support for lossless or HomePod support, which is starting to pick up) and is part of the horrible App Fairness Cartel that doesn’t want to play fair with Apple’s very standard business practice on App Store. (Apple is a business, not a charity Spotify ?)

Simply put, only reason why you want to use Spotify is if you have Android phone, and want same tight integration like how Apple Music is with Music app.

Apple Music >> Spotify by million miles.
Well maybe Spotify can afford to pay artists more if Apple didn’t take 30% of their subscription revenue. Just saying.

Apple Music doesn’t have to pay apple the 30% cut so it should have higher margins

My biggest problem with Apple Music is the recommendations. They are always terrible. I have much better luck with Spotify’s daily lists that update regularly to fit what I’m listening to recently and what I generally listen to frequently. I go back and try Apple music every two years or so for a month or two at a time and it has improved, but not that greatly. I really do want to love the service and use it, but it just doesn’t work for me. The Spotify stats are entertaining to read (although I dont care about the videos and text overlays), but I tend not to share them with anyone outside of my spouse.

If you realized how little Spotify pays apple you would realize how stupid this comment is, Just saying. Every single Spotify subscriber can sign up and pay for Spotify on any system they choose and then use Spotify on the apple devices. In fact only a teeny tiny itty bitty number of customers actually pay for Spotify through the App Store, so no you are wrong. Spotify is run by a Buch of cheapskates who use any excuse possible not to pay artists fairly. Just saying

It’s not like Spotify is paying 30% to Apple for every single one of their subscriptions. It’s 15% for the second year onwards, and 0% for people who subscribe via android or through Spotify’s website directly. I would be very surprised if Spotify hasn’t already managed to migrate the bulk of their iOS off iTunes billing, and the amount of money they are still paying Apple is likely a rounding error.

What is likely happening here is that Apple Music is stealing subscribers from Spotify in developed countries (where the iPhone enjoys higher market share), which constitute the bulk of Spotify’s revenue. This means that even though Spotify has more subscribers in developing countries, they are earning less per user because their service is heavily discounted. The end result is less money after the labels have taken their cut, and this is why they are still have problems with profitability after well over a decade.

I’m amazed each year with this “wrapped” and “replay” stuff. I just couldn’t care less about my music most listened to stats. Maybe I don’t take music that seriously. I must be alone in this.

I was a long time Spotify user, but moved to Apple Music full time this year and the only thing I miss from Spotify is the Wrapped feature. I love stats, so I always found it fun. That being said, “Wrapped fomo” isn’t enough for me to go back to Spotify. I find Apple Music offers much better recommendations, their playlist are well curated and a lot of their radio shows are actually interesting. Not to mention, the Apple Music app is much better geared to listening to my own music rather than Spotify’s opinion to what I should listen to. I also hated Spotify always trying to shove podcasts in my face.

nice service but useless for me
my nr 1 song in this list is „birds singing in the wood“, nr 2 „pigs sleeping in the rain“ because this is played every morning from my bedroom homepod with homekit automation ?

I agree with you 100%!

It's interesting that Apple doesn't understand what a fun feature this is for users and how powerful it is from a brand perspective to have your own users flood social media with essentially advertising of your streaming service.

Really wish Apple would treat Apple Music more like a start up so they could innovate more. As it is, it feels like they are stuck inside a giant machine and unable to create and try new things.

That said, spatial audio for Apple Music is a game changer!

It’s really not, but each to their own.

I don’t have an Android and I love using a Spotify on my iPhone, iPad, iMac and Apple Watch. I can AirPlay Spotify to my HomePods just fine. I tried Apple Music and I didn’t like it. Poor Taylor Swift, if she doesn’t like Spotify business practices she can create her own music streaming service. Spotify FTW.

Apple used to be the king of Movies, TV Shows and Music on iTunes but they are way behind on streaming. Apple TV+ is a joke compared to Netflix. Spotify is also far ahead with suscribers. No wonder Apple is making all this restrictions of not directing to a website, etc.

How can I get Apple Music to recommend music based on what I keep in my Library and what I choose to "Love", not what I listen to most of the time (which is Pure Focus, Study Beats, Living in the Library)? I understand why they're doing it, I just hope there's some way to tell their algorithm to not recommend chill ambient music because I only listen to it while I work.

I'd suggest a good first step is to log it with Apple – use their Feedback page. Unless you/someone else logs it, you can't be sure the Music team are even aware of this issue, which potentially affects others.

WRONG….

Apple TV+ is far ahead of Netflix when it comes to quality of their content. Netflix, all they care about is subscriber count and nothing else. They allow too much creative freedom that turns some viewers off.

Apple, on other hand, has high quality shows that people will want to tune into. They only allow certain type of shows that ALL viewers will like, not select audiences.

Quality of shows > Quantity of shows

Besides, Netflix is slowly falling apart internally after Chappell fiasco. (And that special wasn’t even funny at all, another example of low quality content appearing on Netflix simply for viewership)

I have to use spotify, Apple music's song suggestion and UI is terrible. Seriously, why do I need to tap so many buttons to choose to repeat a song, or add it to my library. Even on spotify I get a heart on my apple watch to let me add something to my likes.

PLUS I'm not only a Mac user, im primarily windows when I'm at home and Apple has yet to put Apple Music on Windows, and I'll be damned if I download that relic, iTunes ever again. Apple even has Apple Music on Android, just put it on Windows and i might consider converting over.

There’s a big reason why Apple doesn’t have the “wrapped” feature like Spotify: Privacy.

Because what other type of music people listen to is none of their business, unless specifically asked for. Advertisers use those “wrapped” features to serve ads, and that’s bit invasive.

You can use the Apple Music android app on Windows, maybe you missed that…..
