How to see text messages & notifications on lockscreen during a call?

    When I'm talking on the phone and the screen is off (during bluetooth or speakerphone) and a text message comes in, the screen will turn on, but I don't see the message. All I see is the background, who I'm talking to and the call timer (no controls because its the lockscreen).

    To see the reason my screen turned on, I have to pull down the notification shade to see texts and such. Aren't these supposed to show up right on the lock screen during a call?

    Everything works fine when not on a call and I didn't mess with the notification settings...I double checked and they are on.

    What gives, how do I see texts and such during a call without having to pull down the notification shade?

    Sounds like for now until perhaps Apple decides to change it (or fix it) the only way would be to use Notification Center.

    Is that the way it's supposed to be?

    I mean, if the screen is going to turn on...shouldn't it show something?

    It's almost like the call thing is 'in front of' the lock screen.

    And come to think of it. I had the same problem with navigation.

    If I'm on a call I can't see navigation unless unlock the phone and open the (currently running and navigating) Apple Maps.

    What the heck.
