I thought the Macrumors crowed was quicker than this to realise I was saying these articles are unnecessary, the watch is not hard to use.

But you all made my argument for me so mission accomplished I suppose.

Your phrasing made you sound like a troll. You could have been more clear about your point.

The emojis remind me of Clippy and pals from Microsoft Word.

Does he not look like he belongs?

Texts don't go to your phone OR watch, they go to your phone every time. The watch just mirrors it for you for quick access. The default replies are for very quick replies. You can always pull your phone out and type out a real reply.

Just proves how worthless smartwatches are ATM.

Just out of curiosity (I don't own an Apple Watch and most likely won't get the 1st gen):

Can't you just ask Siri to reply?
For example say "Hey, Siri! Tell Tim I'll be there in 10 minutes." as you can on the phone?

Best regards!
VSG

SMS will go through just fine from the phone, but no matter how many times I try, they will not go through from the watch... iMessages from the watch work like a dream!

These articles are p*rn for those who want an Apple Watch but haven't yet got one. If they had a Watch, they'd be figuring it out on their own, as you say, no problem. But they don't (yet). When they get their own, they'll pick it up even quicker than a novice, because they'll have already gone through the motions in their mind.

I know this is the only reason I started reading these articles as I am firmly in the June delivery camp. However, as someone who is extremely computer savvy and actively involved in UI design and some programming, I've learned a few good tips from some of these articles that I wasn't already aware of. It might come naturally to those who have one, like you said, but for the rest of us we're excited to learn as much as we can! And I must say there is certainly an audience for it this time around. We're seeing numbers for millions of Apple Watch orders and only a small amount have been received. I don't remember Apple ever being this far behind on orders for any other NEW product category launch. I easily picked up the iPhone and iPad on day one, and my rMBP came within a few days or so when it launched in 2012 but only because I did a custom BTO. I'll be lucky to get this thing within 45 days of ordering.

If you read those instructions and think they will be too difficult for you to perform or remember, even after you've done it a couple of times, then you're right! The Watch is not for you.

That's not the only thing... The fact the crown does a few things, but u must tap for other things on that small display..... that's the issue..

Apple could have integrated the whole thing in the crown.

Maybe that's for the 2nd generation :) Your already using the digital crown for going back Home anyway and scrolling, you can also use it for selecting..

One question: can u start a message, not from your contact list ?

no, i mean can u start a new message on the watch normally, without siri and without using your contact list..

Like you can can iOS, or must u select from a contact first on the watch to start a message ?

There's very little you can do if you start with one hand tied behind your back.;)

If you routinely send messages to people not in your contact list (but whose numbers you have memorized), AND you can't use Siri, then you will not find the Apple Watch very useful for starting those messages. I don't anticipate that being a show-stopping issue for me, but YMMV.

If once in a blue moon you need to start a new message to someone not in your contact list, while also being unable to use Siri, then you can get your phone out and add that contact to your list, or simply start the conversation on your phone and go from there.

MacRumors. Why have you written a guide on sending a text? This is a weak excuse for an article.

So it takes 9 steps to send a pre-defined response....

Can all this be done using Srini by just saying one phrase?

My apple watch is still 5 weeks away and I'm eager to see how this works out.
