Hi All,

I have a MBP, and a mac mini connected to a 500 gig lacie external drive, along with a dell inspirion that is my "beater" notebook.

I have been trying to set the lacie up as a file server for storage of my itunes library and photo library. Those files are on there, but the problem is, when I try to access a song or photo thats on the lacie via the MBP (through iphoto or itunes), it wants to import it. This really isnt the way I want to do it. I want to access those files via the MBP and just have them left on the lacie, is there a way to do this>?

Yes, in your iTunes settings, tell it to not import the files when you add to the library. iTunes > Preferences > Advanced, uncheck 'Copy files to iTunes folder...'

Note: Not really a file server per se, think of it more as you are sharing your music/photos off your mini with your MBP
