this is cool now ALLLLL of my accounts can be checked with my mail app on my latop aaaaaaaand my iphone loving it...

Apple does this too, MobileMe.

Thats a little different. Since your paying upfront you know you have to pay to get the features. MS has a different method with hotmail. They get you to sign up for a free account thinking nothing of it. People often signup to use msn or what not. (atleast at the younger ages) they then hand that email out to everyone they know. Then in the feature they decide they want to use a mail client and can't. Now they only have two options, switch which causes frustration as they have to update everyones contact info. Or they can pay up. Vs with apple everyone knows you have to pay.

I do agree though they both just want to make money. MS is just being a little more devious in it.

I think calling them devious is a little harsh - users can find out what the service offers before they sign up.

Sadly most don't and they know that. So they limit features in hopes of profit. Users see free and off they go.

I my opinion the free service they offer is a full service. And they may call anything extra a premium service, which plenty of companies do. But I see your point about not everyone knowing that.

Especially considering all other free email providers allow you to access your email using your own client, or even forward it to another provider. I would understand if things like push were premium or more space etc.

To be honest, Hotmail just sucks, I used in back in the day as my main email and for MSN haha. Thank God I changed to Googlemail a while back, much nicer to use.

I agree. I am in a similar boat, I don't want to get rid of my hotmail account as some old old friends probably still have it. Yet I can't forward it either. Luckily I have it downloading to mail via a hack. I don't get much email through it anymore though.

If you dont get much email through it it may be a good time to switch. Tell people your new addy and just keep checking the Hotmail one maybe once a week.

One of these days I will. I need to get rid of a yahoo account too.... I have far too many email accounts.

Haha, trying to get one from all the major providers!?

Well I have always enjoyed technology from when I was little. So I started off getting a hotmail account because well every early teen had one. It was for msn etc. I then went to a HTML class at a local college when i was 13 then required a yahoo account for geocities (i think thats what it was called) So that puts my count at 2. I then created another yahoo account awhile later has I wanted an account that didn't get spammed. I didn't use it much as gmail came out recently after that. So I got an account with that because it was the cool new provider. Now finally I have ANOTHER gmail account which is strictly personal email sent to my iPhone.

O and I didn't mention I had an ISP email account somewhere along the way. I have got rid of some of the email accounts I have mentioned but I still have for to many of them.

Haha, nice little collection there, you just reminded me though, I must have had a Yahoo one also as made a GeoCities site back in the day - wow that takes me back!!

OS X Now does it automatically

I know this is over 6 months old, but I recently tried the Mail application again to check my hotmail account... whad'ya know? It did it automatically! Searched out the pop and smtp clients and I was connected straight away!

I'm just saying incase anyone (like me) searches google if they're having problems - just get the latest version of Mail, or OS X. You should be good to go :)

Regards,

Alex.
