How to Sign Up for Apple Fitness+

With the launch of iOS 14.3, iPadOS 14.3, watchOS 7.2, and tvOS 14.3, Apple introduced its latest subscription service, Apple Fitness+. Fitness+ is designed to work with the Apple Watch, providing workouts that can be done on an iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV, with the Apple Watch tracking your fitness progress.

You can sign up for Fitness+ using an iPhone. Fitness+ is priced at $9.99 per month or $79.99 per year, but Apple provides a one month free trial. If you purchased an Apple Watch Series 6, SE, or 3 from Apple after September 15, 2020, you can get a three month free trial before you have to pay.

How to Sign Up for Fitness+

  1. On iPhone, open up the Fitness app (this was previously the Activity app).
  2. Tap on the Fitness+ tab.
  3. Tap on Start Free Trial.
  4. Confirm the App Store purchase.
Depending on whether you recently purchased a new Apple Watch, you'll see options for either a one month trial or a three month trial. Apple will automatically detect the Apple Watch purchase and offer a three month trial as long as you're signed in with the Apple ID used to make the purchase.

You won't be charged for the Fitness+ subscription until the free trial expires, and you can cancel it before then by opening up the Fitness+ app, tapping on your profile picture in the upper right hand corner and tapping on Fitness+.

Make sure not to cancel until just before the free trial expires because canceling causes you to immediately lose access to the Apple Fitness+ app and the remainder of your trial. There is one free trial available per person or per family if you have Family Sharing enabled. A Fitness+ subscription can be shared with up to five family members.

Those who have the Apple One Premier bundle will not see a sign up link because Fitness+ is included in the Premier bundle and will be automatically available.

To use Fitness+, you must have an iPhone 6s or later updated to iOS 14.3 and an Apple Watch Series 3 or later updated to watchOS 7.2. It also works with an Apple TV HD or Apple TV 4K updated to tvOS 14.3 or an iPad Air 2 or later that is running iPadOS 14.3 and has the Fitness+ app installed.

Note that you can also follow these same steps to subscribe to Fitness+ on Apple TV or iPad, but on iPad, you will first need to download the Fitness+ app. For more on Fitness+, make sure to check out our guide.

Anything for those with Apple One Premiere AND purchased a new Apple Watch? I suspect no, but always feels a little sad for the biggest Apple fans when they don't qualify for free months because they're "all in" on subscriptions already.

So this was common knowledge? That Apple was planning to exclude every previous iPad, including 2020 models?

This is one situation I can't try to explain. This is a crappy decision.
 
You just don’t understand the description. The iPad Air 2 is years old - so ALL iPads since that running iOS 14.3 will work. So no exclusion of models from 2020.

I'm confused you're getting the 2020 models are not included when it says the Air 2 or later. The Air 2 is several years old at this point.

That’s the base iPad Air 2 or above

You just don’t understand the description. The iPad Air 2 is years old - so ALL iPads since that running iOS 14.3 will work. So no exclusion of models from 2020.
 
So... anyone else sign up and see that they got charged 9.99 (10.59 because I have tax here)?

Just FYI... the iPad Air 2 came out October 22, 2014............. the current iPad air is the iPad Air 4th gen.

They already badger you to do updates, put in apple pay information, join apple tv, ...

I turn off all the notifications and red dots I can, but Apple's stuff gets priority. Usually you have to act like you are going to set it up and sometimes they go away. But Google is allowed to ask you 20 times a day if you want to join Youtube's paid account system which is against the AppStore rules if I understand correctly.
 
There is no Fitness+ tab in the Fitness app. Running 14.3 RC2 (no OTA upgrade offered today)

edit: nevermind. It appeared after restarting the phone.

The 3 months free offer didn’t come up even though i purchased a series 6 Apple Watch in October. Also noticed that casting to LG TVs via Air play is not available during workouts, I’m guessing this will only be possible if you have an Apple TV. Lastly, cannot find the fitness app in the AppStore for the iPad

I shouldn't be surprised by any conduct from the endlessly avaricious Apple, but I now need to buy a soon-to-be-outdated AppleTV in order to stream Fitness+ workouts to my TV (instead of relying on tiny screens) rather than allowing me to use AirPlay through Roku? Apple makes it so hard to love its products.

Same here purchased a Apple Watch SE in September 23rd so I’m Eligible for the 3 months but it’s not appearing. The only thing that’s appearing is the try it free button. Hopefully it’ll be sorted in the next couple of days 🤞
 
I already have to check my insulin all the time, now there's this watch bothering me to move! I'm going to return my Apple Watch!
