For some reason my mac is logging into a mac mini server using my apple ID. This means I get no access to the file system which makes the file sharing useless. How do I switch this off and go back to username/password that it always used to be? I can use the cmd-K to workaround and it will mount all the drives fine, but if I just click on the share in the Finder I get the drives listed but cannot do anything else.

There seems to be no way to disconnect the shared mac mini in Finder. I want to login with username and password of the mac mini (ie as admin). The workaround is getting annoying fast as it not as simple as just clicking on finder tab.

EDIT I just noticed this "locked" indicator in Screen sharing. Never seen that before? Any way to turn that off

Go into screen sharing, & view all connections on menu bar, then delete them all & set them up again?

As for the locked, I thought that referred to the Mac mini status ie. screen locked?
Thanks. The thing is screen sharing works perfectly. Its connecting in the Finder that doesnt work - ie selecting "network" then "macmini" works up to the point that mini is mounted. But nothing can be opened - it shows logged in as my applie id email. The Disconnect button doesnt work. Nor does the Screen sharing button (have to open the ss app myself to get the screen shared). The mac mini "mounts" and appears in left panel and presents the root list of drives and its user folder etc but you cant open anything. There is also a crossed pencil icon (read only?) in bottom left like when you open and NTFS volume.

The mac mini is headless so I have no idea what locked means in that context? Certainly I didnt lock it and no functions of screen sharing seem to be affected as it works perfectly.

My mini is signed in on a different Apple ID purposely, but could it just be as simple as:
  • When automatic login is enabled, the Mac will attempt to log in to that user account on startup or restart, regardless of whether the user is local or on a network.
  • If the Mac is connected to a network, and the user account is also associated with a network account, the Mac will attempt to log in using those credentials.
for when you turn on the main computer, ie. solution sign out of your id on the mini or disable auto login on the mini maybe?
