How to stop Maps from turning on screen at every turn when getting directions?

When I ask Siri for driving directions, it turns on the screen and shows the map every time I come to a turn. This bugs me for two reasons. The light is a distraction when I'm driving at night, and having the screen on runs down the battery. I would prefer to have it just give verbal directions unless I Raise to Wake the screen myself. I can't look at a map while I'm driving anyway. Is there any way to get it to do this? I don't see any in the settings for Maps.

Great question. Signing on here as I’d like to find out too if there is a way to disable the on/off screen action. Verbal cues are more than adequate when I’m driving.
