Hi suddenly an automator action witch I have not made (have never used) comes into play when I download from the internet with a program called Unison.
Instead of putting the file in the usual download folder it get saved as an Automator action witch I then have to open to be able to see the content.I have scoured the net and my Mac mini 2018 running Mojave all afternoon to no avail. Have even reinstalled a back up where it did not happen but to no avail.Any help would really be appreciated
regards
Chrisus

Sounds like Unison triggers a script for some reason, perhaps when a download begins or completes. I’d carefully check over all the preferences for Unison.

Hi barbu have looked at the preferences and could not find anything special,I then looked at the Action it self by clicking on it, it asked me if I would like to install it (I thought if I did that I could then delete it)

When I clicked on install I got the message
"Action could not be installed".
"The action is provided by a third-party.Third party actions must be explicitly enabled"
there were two buttons you could click third-party actions... or ok."

I clicked ok and am now worried that there may be is something harmful now on my computer
What do you think I should do in this situation
thanks
Chrisus

If you installed something that worries you, uninstall the Unison app.

If we are talking about the same application here eg. Unison 2.2? That software is from 2014.
I downloaded Unison 2.2. It's a zip file with the Unison application in it. Looking at the folder structure of the application there are no Automator actions to be found. It has got to be something else that's causing the effect you see. Automator actions are files that end in .action. You'll find them in your home folder --> Library --> Automator or Library --> Automator or System --> Library --> Automator. You can also download Automator actions and install them by opening them in the Finder. When you do you'll see something like this :

Good luck.

Hi krytrons thanks for your help the Unison I was using is an earlier version but more or less exactly the same.
I had looked in the places you suggested --> Library --> Automator or Library --> Automator or System --> Library --> Automator
and found nothing suspicious or related to unison , mostly actions for Microsoft software Office etc
As I wrote before:-
When I clicked on the install button on the action installer window(same as the one you show in your post) I then got a new Action installer window with the message
"Action could not be installed".
"The action is provided by a third-party.Third party actions must be explicitly enabled"
there were two buttons allow third-party actions... or ok."
That is when I decided to wipe the whole disc!
What I curious to understand is how whoever made the automator action can get it to effect all the posts from different people in a specific news group
