How to stream specific app like VLC to TV without mirroring whole screen?

Say I want to use VLC to play a movie and stream it to my LG TV, while also browsing the net on the laptop itself - is this possible? Seems like a basic functionality but doesn't pop out at me as something intuitive to setup!

Any ideas?

Hmm I would think the VLC player would need an Airplay button to isolate the video from mirroring the rest of your screen?
