How to sync color?

whats the best way to sync the colors of a 27" iMac with an external monitor to make them more alike?

The best way is to use a colorimeter with calibration software. I've been out of the loop for a bit, but the Spyder 4 series seems like a decent choice. I'm sure there are other options available.
