Plutonius macrumors G4 Dec 27, 2012 #3 The 3rd gen Touch will not upgrade to IOS 6 so you have a 3rd gen or earlier. I don't believe any Touch before the 3rd gen was sold with 64gb which would make it a 3rd gen Touch.

C cheezeit macrumors 6502 Dec 27, 2012 #4 I'm sure there is a way you can look up the serial and it'll tell you once you look it up
j.dstasio macrumors 6502 Dec 27, 2012 #5 The model number is engraved on the back. If it is a 64gb, it would have to be 3rd gen or newer. A 4th gen would update to iOS6. A 3rd gen would not. Does it have a front facing camera?

ppcg4mac macrumors 6502 Dec 27, 2012 #6 no volume buttons = 1st gen model number starting with A12 = 2 Gen the relevant part starting with A13 = 3 gen Camera and 3.5 inch screen = 4th gen 4 inch screen (or a back any color besides chrome silver) = 5th gen OR if it runs 4.3 or above its a 3rd gen.
