how to tell which country's flag it is in the list of flag emojis?

on my Samsung Note5 phone, I just hover over the flag emojis and it tells me which country that flag belongs to..

on my iPhone 7 and SE, there's no way to tell.. (other than the more familiar countries, of course)

sounds like a challenge!

just counted.. the emojis contain 255 flags... There's
no way that I'll learn all of them? :)

what's that first one that looks completely white? :)
Was that the World War II era French flag? :D :D :D

Go into iMessages, put the flag into a message. Don't send it. Hold down your finger over the flag until options show up, press select. Then as new options come up select look up. Then you can select search web. (More options may be available after you select look up, I do not have Siri or spotlight search activated).

Here's the easiest solution if you're looking for a specific flag:

In iMessage, type the counter name. Then switch to the emoji keyboard. Notice how the country name is now golden and wavey. Tap on it, and the flag will replace the name.

They're in alphabetical order if that helps. Also agreed with the comment of typing in the country name and messages will auto-emoji it for you in the predictive text area
