Hi I've a 6th gen ipod Touch.

How do I turn the volume up or down? It only allows me to toggle sound effects. The volume is still up so when I get a message it still beeps. This is annoying when I need it on silent mode. I wish they just added a silent switch on the side. Can anyone help?

By default the buttons adjust the ringer volume (rings and notification tones). You can change it to adjust the volume (music/media/games) under Sounds in system preferences under "Change with Buttons".

You can also just keep the buttons as the ringer adjust and swipe up control center and change the audio volume there. That's how I go about it on my iOS devices. And Siri has it's own volume too that can only be adjusted while using Siri. It goes off in my pocket all the time when the volume is down and the ringer is on silent. Not the best implementation.
