How to trade down New iPhone 4 32gb for 16gb?

Hello,

I just bought off ebay an iPhone 4 32gb, brand new. It still has the plastic all over it. I turned it on because I wanted to check it is a 32gb but it says I need a SIM card...is there a way for me to check everything out without putting in a SIM card?

Also, I really would rather have a 16gb version and the $100 difference. Is craigslist the best route for this trade? Or, would my best bet be to unlock this phone and sell it for hundreds more on ebay? I got it for $580 total price and see unlocked versions sell for $800-$1100+. Anybody got any tips on how to unlock it to any network? I might be best off trying to make a profit and then buying a 16gb...

Plug it into iTunes and get the serial number displayed iTunes and put it here

If you can't get the serial number from iTunes, then copy it from the back of the phone.
