Hi guys.

Two questions, please:

1. What is the recommended Mail program for a Mac? I currently use Outlook on my PC, and will soon be getting a MBP.

2. How do you transfer the mail files (and folders, of course) from Outlook to the recommended Mail program for a Mac?

Thanks!

There are a couple of different ways.

1) http://www.riches.com.au/articles/export-outlook-entourage.htm - explains how to use an mbox-based e-mail client as an interim step. Does not move calendar/contacts.

2) http://www.littlemachines.com/ - I think this is what many people use. Not free, but one of the cleaner solutions and is available now for a mere $10.

I installed an IMAP server on my Linux machine and copied all my mail from Outlook to the IMAP server and decided to just leave my mail on the IMAP server. I think I had to export my contacts to a CSV file, do some massaging of the file then importing into AddressBook. Moving mail and contacts was by far the biggest pain in the a$$ of switching to Mac (as far as I was concerned).

A lot of people use the default "Mail" application. I personally use Entourage (same as Outlook, comes with Office 2004). Find it really easy to use, nice layout and runs in the background hidden without any problems.

Mail.app > *

So lightweight and nice, but has all the features you need.
