how to transfer your pics, videos to computer

anyone know how to transfer your pics, video, etc files from the phone to the computer?....yes, i can backup using itunes but i don't see where the files are?

When I plug in my iPhone, iPhoto opens in addition to iTunes. I can import into iPhoto through that application.

iPhoto, it should launch automatically. 🙂
