Also I went even farther and bought today a Crucial M4 SSD (256Gb) to make it better suited for traveling. Now my MBP is silent, lightning fast and with increased battery life. Clean-installed Lion, no problems! Woohoo!
Now I truly love my mac!

P.S. I hadn't even realized how actually noisy my stock HDD was before I replaced it with a Crucial M4.

get a proper backpack (with a dedicated sleave/compartment) and you'll be fine
i travel all the time ( never to australia unfortunately) and never had a problem
rember to get the connectors for the powersupply
enjoy your trip

Agreed. I never travel without my laptop and have never had an issue.
