do i just need to use the disk utility to partition it (instead of boot camp since it can't make more then one partition) and then get the drivers from bootcamp since windows 7 and 8 use the same drivers and install them?

    will that work?

A virtual machine is the way to run different versions of Windows. I run both XP and 7 under Parallels.
