How To Turn Off Automatic Apple Updates

Hi,

I updated the 10.10.1 today. After updating, I was asked the question if I wanted to automatically download and install updates. I foolishly answered "yes". Considering all of the issues with updates on the OS X I would like to turn automatic updates off so that I can back-up before updating.

How do I turn off automatic downloads and updates from Apple?
