I've actually found that when switched to silent Siri whispers. Call me crazy but I was wondering why the heck she sounded so weird. Haha :p

Thank you former.
Happened to me when checking cricket scores from Australia on iPhone 5 at 4.40. Wife awake for rest of night.
Turn off Siri tone by holding home button until it beebs and turn down volume with buttons. Now I know!

Wow... Dotme, THANK YOU! This had never crossed my mind! I don't often post in here but I had to just to let you know that this was the most direct easiest and helpful reply I have even seen on these forums! I sometimes hesitate to ask my own questions on here because a lot of the time I see that the OPer never gets a friendly, direct answer. But rather ends up in making the OPer feel stupid and unworthy. YOU however have single handily restored my faith in this forum for getting answers! Kudos to you!

Siri has independent volume settings. Hold home button down until Siri pops up, then immediately adjust the volume using the phone's side buttons.

how does nobody know this, countless times in class peoples siri have gone off because they held the home button too long.

Thank you. This is exactly what needed to be done, and if someone doesn't know how to do this then this little bit of advice is very helpful.

And as of iOS 9 the Siri "beep" has even been removed on iPhones.

I can't believe I overlooked this... Thanks mate!
This worked, but the label for the volume said "heaphones" while i was lowering it. This is confusing and they should have a mixer in the control panel to set multipile volume levels and keep them such as headphone/audio out, siri, ringer volume, alert volume etc.

You literally saved my sanity tonight!! Not sure how old this post is, but soooo glad I found your answer! The “ding-dong” anytime I try to do the “talk-to-text” was about to drive me nuts!
