i wish i understood why apple, with it's 'hip' image, is SO adamant that all our apple devices (macs, ipads, iPhones), HAVE to look the same.

why can't we have some customization? we've bought our computers, we OWN them...why can't i have a black menubar (i do, btw), or a transparent dock?

or 5 icons across a screen (the ipad looks ridiculous as it is).

just...frustrating. with each new OS, i find ways to modify the GUI to my liking.
hope that mavericks won't make that impossible...

i like your wall paper where did you get that?

I think another way you could do it is to set the delay of showing the dock to some huge number using the terminal.

that's been true...but reported to not work in mavericks. can someone TRY 'dock gone' in mavericks? (am still on ML). one benefit of this app...control. i can unhide the dock (ie if i want to check the files in the trash)...

Yes, you can do this. I set my system up this way in ML and it still works in Mavericks. I only use a 5 second delay because that is sufficient to eliminate the accidental dock appearances, but short enough that I can still have it pop up when I want.

The terminal command (for a 5 second delay) is: defaults write com.apple.dock autohide-delay -float 5; killall Dock

dock gone is WORKING in mavericks, which makes me happy. i only sometimes pop up the dock to check what's in the trash (with a key command).

hating the dock since 10.4!
(at least, on a 12" powerbook, and now a 13" macbook pro...) :D

sorry guys, but for me even:
defaults write com.apple.dock autohide-delay -float 5; killall Dock
or
defaults write com.apple.dock hide-mirror -bool true;killall Dock

didn't worked. could someone help me please?

Maybe try running the "defaults" and the killall commands separately instead of as one command.

I know you said you got your wallpaper from your iPhone? Why don't you spread the wealth, and upload it so those of us who like it , I do; can DL it? Would be a nice gesture.

When on the side, the "hide-mirror" hack just hides the blur layer behind the dock, the Dock is still translucent white.

In order to customize the appearance of the side or floor docks in Mavericks, you need to resort to injecting executable code into the Dock process.

(This was the case in 10.8 for the bottom dock, but the side dock still used .png files located in the Dock.app bundle, so it was customizable. As of 10.9, both side and bottom docks are rendered completely using calls to CoreGraphics).

cDock

cDock will make your dock transparent (and 2D looking) under Mavericks at the bottom of your desktop. The only "problem" is that the light under the open apps has some weird reflection (like the 3D dock was still there). I just turned it off (see attachment). It's still the best option so far...

What's the app that turns the menubar into black...? :D

see post # 136 for the download link to version 3.3 of cDock, works fine with 10.9.2 + and has a transparent option.

I'd love to know where he got those dock icons. Anyone know?

Thanks, wOlf. If anyone else knows of any others, I'd be very interested.

I'm not up on icons. Is it likely he just modified them himself and replaced the originals? *Edit: Is it possible when modifying them that he just removed the color? If so, it's a gorgeous effect...
