Hey, i found a little trick for unlocking FaceID with mask, it may not work at 100% but most of times, it does
Here is the instructions:
Add second appearance/face:
In first scan, hold your mask in half of your face

Then at 2nd scan, switch side

I wonder if this works for everybody, at least, it does for me

Yeah, nah not happening, not compromising security by doing that lol.

I just pull my mask down to unlock my phone. Once it’s unlocked I pull my mask back up. Quick and Easy👍

this guy should get an award.. i’ve been doing this since the beginning. i don’t understand why people don’t do it more often. i think people forget how finicky touch id was. with my 7 it would work maybe 60% of the time on the first try. i’d have to make multiple scans profiles of my thumb. thumb1 thumb2 thumb3 all for my right thumb.

Obviously it’s a ymmv situation but for me TouchID is 100% success unless my hands are wet

I got a better solution: don’t wear a mask in the first place. Voila! Face ID works every time 😺

But as far as the OP, I'll try it out to see if it works and if there is a compromise in security.

It should work but to be honest, do it with nobody around because you gonna be ridiculous with an half of mask on your own face 😆

It is not a good idea to side step security, in my opinion. Unlock your phone with the passcode when using a mask.

The new feature in 14.5 that works in conjunction with an apple watch has been working brilliantly for me. No need for special "training" steps.

Technically you should wash your hasnfs or sanitize when touching your mask.

Apple watch has apple pay already baked in. Heck it was one of the reasons I got the watch. Double-click the power button and you can pay. No mask fiddling required. Unlocking the phone is a bonus as I can quickly check my texts or the grocery list.

Only downside is like you called out, you can't log into faceID secured apps via this method...which is something I rarely need to do while out and about.
