An update to WatchOS 6 to support this feature would be welcome. I would most likely get a new Apple Watch sooner if I could trust Apple to make features like this accessible to as many people as possible.

Alright, question about doing Apple Watch betas.

I was about to sign up but it states I’m not able to downgrade back to the standard version of watchOS. I’m ok with that, and I think that’s how Apple TV worked. But can I jump off the betas and whenever the next version watchOS comes out, jump on that and be back on the public level releases?

Yes.

Yes, you can. You would have to remove the profile and then wait until the next public release was available and install.

I am still on my 6S+. I love Touch ID so much. I have seen folks up here in the colder climate shopping and touching every surface then messing with their mask so they can unlock their phone. I can’t help to wonder how many of them contracted something nasty by doing this

Definitely, the most awaited feature since COVID began!! So excited here!
I know, right? It only took them a year to enable this exceedingly logical (?) functionality. Nevermind that in many areas, mask-wearing was the norm even before COVID. But once it affects Cupertino, we see changes being made. 🙄 Better late than never, I guess.

I got forever with my solar-powered G shock as long as the sun is there. 😤
But it only does time telling, alarm, stopwatch, timer, and self time adjustment daily.

So not really the same as a smartwatch, is it? :)
Not forever. Eventually the capacitor in the watch will go bad and need to be replaced, like the one in my Citizen Eco-Drive (also solar powered). That’s why I said I got a decade. It’s not smart like my Apple Watch, but it does something the Apple Watch doesn’t: look like a watch that an adult wears. More appropriate in some environments.

So you have to use a passcode to unlock the Apple Watch which will then unlock the phone? I have to be misunderstanding this.
The watch needs to have a PIN set for this to work (same as using it for Apple Pay or to log in to a Mac) but you don’t need to enter the PIN on the watch to use this feature. The watch needs to be unlocked, but that happens automatically when you enter the PIN on the paired iPhone. So, put on watch, use PIN to unlock phone once and then the watch will unlock the phone until you take off the watch. Repeat the next time you put on the watch.
