iPhone How to upgrade from 5.0.1 to 5.1.1?

ok ive made my custom IPSW via stitch however after verifying etc etc it gets to restoring it and then comes to another error -1 ?

also when i try to use PWNED DFU mode to use a custom IPSW it says its missing keys from plist?!

You are attempting to downgrade an iPhone from iOS 5 to iOS 4.x. To resolve, use either custom firmware created by PwnageTool/sn0wbreeze or use notcom's FixRecovery utility available on his site.
On an iPhone 4 downgrading from iOS 5, use the option in TinyUmbrella to allow a baseband "upgrade" to bypass the error and go back to basband 4.10.1.
Unable to downgrade. Try changing the USB port (the back one of chassis is better) and restart computer.
The installed version of iTunes may also be too old. Update iTunes.
You are trying to downgrade an iPhone 4 to an earlier version of iOS 5, using redsn0w. To resolve, stitch your blobs to a "No_BB" ipsw of the firmware you are trying to downgrade to."

Check your itunes version, restart computer, etc

Did redsn0w verify full-blobs for your device?

Upgrade to 5.1.1

I think I understand how this works, but I'm going to ask just in case I missed something.

I just got an iPhone 4 second hand that has 5.0.1 installed. I would like to update it to 5.1 (mainly because of the maps app), and I understand that because it's not being signed by apple anymore, if I don't have the blobs, then it's not possible. Is this correct?

If I go to redsnow and save blobs, it will only save blobs of the firmware I'm in (5.0.1) but not 5.1.1

Is all this correct? Is there anyway to update to 5.1.1?

Correct, without any 5.x.x hashes, you can only restore to iOS6
If you need to restore the phone to 5.0.1 due to operation issues (clean restore), I believe iFaith and Sn0wbreeze can capture the 5.0.1 hashes from your device and allow a restore to 5.0.1 (only)

OK. I guess I'll have to stay with 5.0.1 until iOS 6 get's a little better.

One thing I noticed during the little time I used iOS 6 was the shorter battery life time, so no 6 for now....

Actually now that you say that, I realised that I was also using the tethered JB and haven't actually tried it without JB, so not sure if the battery life issue is something related to iOS 6 or to the JB.
