Just curious as to how are you people planning to do pre-ordering in Sept when new iPhones are unveiled? I used to do it in apple app store, but now apple is not giving that option unless you switch to next plan. I have older plan and have a conventional 2 year upgrade I would like to use. Anyone in the same boat?

If you want the two year upgrade you will have to order/buy from AT&T. It will mean a less chance of getting your phone on introduction day as Apple can deliver way more phones.

Same here. Did the 5S upgrade from iPhone App Store in Sep 2013. Will have to go through AT&T website this time.
What is your eligibility date? Mine is 09/21/15, which means I will not be eligible on 09/11/2015 to pre-order.

At&t usually lets you order same month as eligibility, so i dont think you will have that problem if preorder date is 11th or whatever date before 21st. I did this last year with one of my family lines.

Keep checking you date as sometimes AT&T will change these days just days before the introduction. They want to keep the churn as low as possible and want YOU!

I'm hoping AT&T shortens it up and allows people to upgrade a little early. I bought two iPhone 5s's in Dec 2013 and I'd hate to wait until Dec of this year to upgrade.

Apple app for me using NEXT. Then will go pay the phone off in full at att once it arrives. Not dealing with ATT nonsense preordering every again. They made me wait way to long last year, over a month even though I was in right away on a preorder, less then a minute.

same boat, 9/21. Usually At&t will bump dates up to allow you do pre-order. I have had every Iphone and never had an issue before.

I wish Apple would release the SIM-free on launch day, instead of 3-4 months later.

I wish apple would just offer one sim-free model and be done with it! Given Apple's love of simplicity, the iPhone model permutations is anything but simple! Just stock a pile of sim free phones in store and boom, you eliminate the question of "which carrier do you want?"

Sounds good. I hope that you are right.

Odds are they won't but rather push you towards their Next Program. There's little incentive for them to give you an early purchase of the iPhone 6s when they already have a mechanism for that, i.e., Next

True... I called AT&T yesterday since my line isn't due for full discount until 9/21, figured they could bump it up to 9/10 so I could get in on the preorder but no deal, kept pushing NEXT. Called twice and used online chat, all failed. Guess I'll just wait until the 21st to order not worth the extra $250 to order early.

so I could get in on the preorder but no deal, kept pushing NEXT.
Subsidized pricing is going the way of the dodo, and everyone knows it. ATT isn't going to give us any breaks when they can push their own Next program.

Are you certain this is how it works? I'd like to do the same thing (if there's no SIM-free option), but I can't confirm that AT&T will let you pay off the full price early without some kind of ******** fee. My plan would be to satisfy all payments in advance and then request an unlocking.

Assuming I can do this, would the overall cost be equivalent to buying an unlocked phone outright? Any disadvantage to paying full price for a T-Mobile version and then swapping my SIM?

It will happen someday.

Very good point. You're right -- I can't see them allowing the 2-yr contract folks to upgrade any earlier then the month they are eligible for an upgrade.

Thanks for pointing this out. I've resigned to the fact that for my particular needs, I'll just wait until December to upgrade, which is when my 2-years is up. I have nothing to complain about either...I agreed to a 2-yr deal with AT&T when I got my last subsidized phone.

Looks like AT&T has moved my full upgrade eligibility from 9/21 to 9/1. I guess the two customer service reps and the live chat person I spoke with last week had no idea of what they were talking about when they all said there was NO WAY my upgrade eligibility date would change, even just a few day for the release.

There are couple of them commenting in this thread as well with same misinformation.
