I am going to college next year and will be getting a dell display to use with my computer, but plan on taking my apple tv with me (I need some way to get HD movies). Obviously, the new dell 24 inch monitor has an HDMI input, but no audio output, so my question is there some way to plug headphones into the apple tv? Are there cables to convert the left and right channels into a standard female input that I can plug a pair of headphones into?

I don't want to have to have a receiver in my dorm room, so if anyone has any suggestions it would be appreciated.

You'll need a headphone pre-amp. Grado make one, although it is quite expensive...

Google around a bit, the right thing is out there for you - kinda like a receiver except without the capability to drive speakers...

In theory there should be a headphone jack in the Dell monitor if it has a HDMI port?
