Is there a Focus mode for when you’re setting up Focus modes?
It seems so tedious to set up, but I can see this being very handy.

It did make me think about just how many features and settings there are for the iPhone, with pithy names etc. We need a refresher of what is still used by iOS and what has been dropped as I feel like I can’t keep up.

Do people really want an electronic device to control what they can see and what they can do? These are basic skills that anyone who can figure out an iPhone should be able manage.

other people will see what mode you are on and may decide to wait to message you.

that's gold for us busy types.

It doesn't exactly work this way but you could just check all the apps except those two, which isn't too hard since there are just checkboxes to tap and you can select multiples at once.
That works for notifications and contacts but is a bit of a ball-ache when you have hundreds of apps installed. Plus it would mean having to modify the lists every time you install a new app or add a new contact.

Apple adding an “All except…” option would seem to be a relatively trivial thing to do. Perhaps I’ll submit it though the feedback app.

Pro tip: Turn off your phone.
If only it were that simple.

I have four or five business apps on my phone that notify me throughout the working day. They’re very, very useful.

Unfortunately they continue to notify me throughout the evening and overnight night as our business operates 24/7.

Turning off my phone in order to stop receiving them is like curing the disease by killing the patient.

I still want to use my phone and have it notify me. Just not about the things that’s aren’t relevant to me at that time.

I like that I can have a meditation focus turn on as soon as I open any of my meditation apps and turn off as soon as I leave the app. I used to put my phone in airplane mode or turned on do not disturb when I meditated. I would forget to turn it off sometimes and missed some important calls. This way, I don’t have to remember to turn it off.

I would like to see them add an option to only receive repeated calls from certain people.

This feature seems like way too much setup for too little payoff. Any app that spams notifications gets blocked from me, if not fully uninstalled. Notifications are not advertisements, and to be honest, Apple should be enforcing this.

Not with the built-in Focus mode tools. I'm not sure if there's some way you could do a Shortcut or something, but there's no mechanism for activating smart home products from the Focus automations.
There is Shortcuts app support to set a focus with an automation, and to also change your watch face when your focus changes :)

When it comes to setting up the different focus modes I want to be able to set “Allow calls from anybody” and “Allow notifications from all apps except selected apps” but these don’t appear to be options.
You can do the first part but not the second part.

Right? I liked the idea of it as it reminded me of how I used to be able to set my Nokia into different modes for when I was at school or work and it would silence alerts, change tones and vibration patterns and restrict calls from anyone not in my contacts. When I tried to configure Focus, however, it was ridiculously complicated. For a feature that’s supposed to simplify my life it sure did a great job giving me a headache from the complication.

Is it possible to limit notifications to certain email accounts only depending on the focus mode?

What’s fun about this is how oblivious you are to all the subconscious processes that made you waste your time by writing and posting this message.

Who actually needs a focus for eating, am I missing something? I mean just use do not disturb generally. What will we see next, a focus for brushing my teeth?
i knew someone would post exactly this. Rephrase your question and it becomes obvious: who would want to make exceptions for food delivery apps when they’re blocking all notifications?

I think this is one of the highlights of iOS 15 to be honest. Having a focus toggle with a geofence, and then have that focus status trigger Siri Shortcuts (to change an Apple Watch face or screen/sound state) is just fantastic.

Only time i think I will use this is at night for nba scores through the night to be there first

It can do that?

Yes, in the Shortcuts app select the 'Automation' tab and create a 'Personal Automation' - there are more triggers listed, including all of the Focus modes you've created. You can have it trigger on Focus start, stop or both.

Once you have the trigger set, you can then add the Watch Face or Quiet Mode (for example) change accordingly. It's great!

Now I can finally have a 'work' Apple Watch face which I don't have to switch to manually.

Wow. Sounds awesome!

Thank you for mention it 👍
