How to use iphone4 in India ?

Can anyone help me with some basics ? Here's how far I've gotten
- you need a micro sim card to use the iphone 4 in india
-airtel is the carrier and you need to buy the card in india (or perhaps order it online if possible)
-jailbreak is needed to unlock your iphone (I use ATT)

It this all sounds legit, or you have other experience, better ways to navigate this I would appreciate it.

I'll be in India for a month in 2/2012 and depending on cost- would like to use the phone intermittently- it seems 3G and the iphone 4 was launched in India around 9/2010.

You cannot use an AT&T iPhone on any other carrier besides AT&T unless you use the Gevey Sim hack. There is no software unlock for the more recent versions of basebands on the iPhone 4.
