Huh?

I hope that they reconcile this with iCloud drive. These two don't make sense. At least have itunes match and then throw that in for free if you sign up for iCloud drive. Otherwise, I need to move my music to icloud drive and dump itunes match.

They don't? iCloud drive is for documents you create that are available on all your devices.

iTunes Match is so your music available anywhere in the cloud.

Seems to make sense to keep your created docs and music separate, no?

Doesn't make sense to pay separately and on different cycles.

This is why I suggested that Apple could sell itunes match and then throw it in as a freebie with iCloud drive since it is so expensive already. I am now paying $4 for 200 gig per month and then $25 per year for itunes match. And then they are about to add another one with the beats replacement. It would be really nice if they had something tiered so that I am not having to make multiple separate payments on different cycles to the same company.

So, I guess that's my long way of answering, no. :)

I've been struggling with iTunes Match since the beginning. It's pretty bad and has never gotten any better. I've actually slimmed down my collection to make it work for me, but I always wind up going over 25k when I add back in what had been removed. There seem to be an awful lot of 25k+ people out there like me who get stuck once their collection hits the magic number. You would think Apple would have at least upped the limit by now, but they can't even be bothered to fix their terrible matching. Won't be subscribing again unless something significant changes. Sticking with Google Play and I'll be uploading my collection to OneDrive in anticipation of a music app from Microsoft that can take advantage of it. (And if not, I still have all of my music safely stored away as well as on a couple of drives at home.)

I subscribed twice, once when it launched, and again last year.

It was clear Apple HAS NOT improved this service. And like all their other services, it's half baked and just enough to say 'we got this feature' and that's it.

Why does it match 12 out of 13 songs of an album that iTunes clearly has? Granted it got 80% of my library right. 10% I knew it wasn't going to match due to live recordings, old hip-hop albums, etc. The remaining 10% should have matched.

At least with Google, you can see they constantly updated and improve stuff. Not Apple. Just give them your money and never again see an update to improve a service.

It's no wonder they have yet to launch a service that "just works".

My artwork keeps disappearing which is highly annoying. Every now and then I make the effort to add back all the missing artwork, only to discover a week later that some other artwork has been deleted...

Even for matched music this happens all the time. before I went in the cloud, I had artwork for all my music, well, not anymore..

P.s. i even corrected a lot of my old artwork, artwork that didn't have the correct format (600x600).
I deleted the old artwork and replaced it with a complete different one.
after a week or so the old deleted one would reappear. what a joke.

iTunes really needs to embed that damn artwork into the file. I uploaded all my music to Google and alot of my stuff doesn't have artwork. My stuff is perfect in iTunes, but going outside of Apple's box is a recipe for a nightmare.

Yet ANOTHER link bait garbage article from Lory Gil. Every one of her articles starts with "How to..." with information that is already easily available directly from Apple's website and a million other blogs. It's just a matter of time before MacRumors becomes another cheesy blog full of crap like "5 tips to improve your sex life with Apple products" or "These 5 tips will help you lose weight with the new Apple Watch!" or "5 tips to save you time on your morning commute using Beats radio."

I happen to agree with this. Quality over quantity in articles please MR.

Match has some major problems on iPhone...the biggest one is when you have your iPhone set to automatically connect to a wifi network that requires you to go through a webpage sign-in process...the subway in Toronto has such a system, and it is convenient to have it auto-connect to the wi-fi (even if the internet isn't connected), if you don't go through the "advertisement" page you don't get any internet access, and at the next song itunes will choke until you can get internet (either by clicking on the ad, or by getting to a 3g/4g connection)...

When on wifi (with no 3g/4g/lte)-there should be a check before playing a song to see if you can access the internet (not just a check to see if wi-fi is connected). The timeout should be low, and if the check fails it should just play local music....

What I discovered from my iTunes Match experience was that I only want a personally curated version of my music library on any given device. I don't want it cluttered with songs, or links to re-download songs, that I don't currently care about (e.g. Christmas songs in March).

When I turn on Bluetooth on my car stereo and the Music app auto-randomizes my music library and plays the first song, I'd rather it was at least timely.

Also, if the randomized "song" is actually a download link, it goes through a display/skip routine until it finds an actual song, instead of skipping them entirely.

It leaves me wondering whether any of the Apple engineers actually use this stuff themselves (IMO, probably the worst indictment of an :apple: product).

On the other hand I like iTunes Radio, and I guess I'm the only one.
I use it and like it OK. I think there's room for improvement, but I don't understand all the hate for it. It's easy to use, syncs stations to all my Mac and iOS devices including Apple TV, and with iTunes Match has no ads.

iTunes Match could be better but I'm overall satisfied with having access to my entire iTunes Library from all of my Apple devices for just $25/yr. It also saves space that I would have to otherwise use to store music on the devices which allows me to not have to buy a 128GB iPhone.

ITunes Match is pretty awful all the way around, I first subscribed to get all my music in higher quality, but the service is so littered with issues I have trouble even justifying it. Particularly, it seems to have trouble updating meta data and artwork between my iTunes library. My Apple TV doesn't like to update match with the new stuff I add, and I am just a few thousand songs away from that 25,000 song limit..

The idea is cool, but so awfully executed. I bet the engineers themselves don't use the service personally.

Its a deceiving subscription service

if you buy all of your music from iTunes, you can get it on any device at anytime....as long as you dont sync it with non-itunes music from your library.

iTunes match is really only catering to those who have music that is ripped from CDs at higher quality than iTunes may have provided or music not in iTunes, or lower quality music that can be rematched with ITunes quality music instead.

iTunes match confuses the hell out of most people.

its nice to have...but damn

"Songs that don't exist in the iTunes Store already are uploaded to iCloud from your computer."
Does that count towards your iCloud storage limit?

On the other hand I like iTunes Radio, and I guess I'm the only one.

I like it a lot when it works properly, but it tends to randomly stop playing music. On top of that, some stations die after playing about 10 songs or after I relaunch iTunes and won't play at all unless I delete and re-create them. Seems to be the same ones that die almost every time.

I have lots of id3 custom metadata in my collection like comments, grouping and lyrics info.

Does anybody know if this metadata is uploaded to itunes match the first time and also available when downloaded to another device or even accessible without having to download the track?

for example, I have lots of smart playlist that search through my metadata. Will these playlists work on another device? Do they work only for downloaded tracks or both downloaded and streamed?

thanks!

Yearly fee alone was worth it to upgrade all my low-quality stuff.

That's the main reason I got iTunes Match. But I haven't noticed any of my CD collection replaced with "high quality" versions. They're all exactly the same as when I imported them (standard MP3 files at 128kbps). I even imported some albums from vinyl, hoping they'd get replaced by higher quality versions. But they weren't either.

The only thing I like about iTunes Match is that I don't have any music files taking up space on my iPhone.

EDIT: I'm going to amend this. I just went back to my iTunes collection and got info on random tracks. It appears that some ripped albums actually have been converted to higher quality, in most cases those that I've had in iTunes for over a year. More recent tracks have not yet been converted. Maybe it takes time...

What happens when you reach the 25k limit? How do you manage your songs then? Can you select which 25k songs to match? I'm about to hit my limit and have no idea what to expect.

I just passed it. It auto-renewed (I actually forgot it was coming up and meant to cancel) and I just passed 25k songs so it doesn't even work anymore. Just turned itself off and won't let me turn it on. I haven't tried too hard to resolve it though. But it's annoying and a waste.

I've been using iTunes Match from when it was in beta and will continue to do so.

I like ripping CDs and then iTunes matched them with the Mastered for iTunes copies.

I also like getting iTunes Radio commercial free.

I do have Google Music set up to also sync all my music to Google Music so that I can also have it on my Android phones.

Nope, the uploaded ones don't count towards your storage space limit. Matched and uploaded songs only count against your 25k songs in iTunes Match.

I bet you more people visit macrumors for help then apple.com. So while your comment may be valid for you, it probably helps a lot of other users.
