Apple Music sucks.

Specifically
- Music discovery sucks compared to Spotify
- Lack of year-end playlists (your most listened tracks etc.) and other fun features...sucks
- UI sucks
- Lack of free tier sucks for some people
- In conclusion, Apple Music sucks and the only reason to get it instead of Spotify is if you’re desperate to be as far up Apple’s #*@# as possible.

Spotify's way of handling one's own music sucks. It all goes to a playlist when I prefer having it with my music library. That enough made me switch to AM and never look back. Couldn't care less personally for discovery and year-end playlists/fun stuff.

I prefer AM but Spotify absolutely does have a personal library..

Does anyone have one? What about when my spouse wants to airplay to the HomePod that is under my Apple ID? Can she do that with most apps? I’m thinking obviously Apple Music, also maybe podcasts, YouTube?

So basically I’m asking when I’m not around she can use the darn thing from her phone too, right?

As it happens I subsequently ended up owning a HomePod mere hours after posting this message. And to my delight, the thing works smooth as silk for anyone in the house. I will have visitors in a few days so we'll see how it goes with them, probably won't be able to Airplay the speaker from their phones, as you suggest. We'll see.

Spotify Connect is great cuz it actually streams from the speaker and you just use another device to control it so it doesnt interrupt anything on the device you are controling it with and has little to no impact on battery life cuz it doesnt need to constantly push the stream to the speaker. With airplay on the other hand i actually have to stream it to the HomePod from the iPhone

That's the key argument for me as well. Newer iOS versions butcher battery life of my iPhone anyway and if I want to stream some music in the evening via AirPlay, I need to plug my phone in (usually 25% battery left when I get home), which then will be the same as plugging in a good old AUX cable. With the added bonus that you can't do that any more with newer iPhones.
So Spotify Connect is perfect since I can play directly from my speakers. Having Spotify Connect as a "remote app" on my iPhone lock screen uses enough battery...

(No, AM is no option for me for various reasons)

The sound is phenomenal and Siri gets my commands right.

Been using it with Google Play and it sounds great

Are you having issues with Siri commands to skip or play previous tracks using Google Play Music? For some reason, once I link it thru airplay, I can listen and pause/play fine, But skipping tracks will not start next song at beginning, but rather play exactly the time of where last track was. For ex. If I was listening to track 1 for 0:20 seconds and then tell Siri to skip, it starts next track at 0:20. Doesn’t happen with Amazon Music.
