Why? Just why?

Literally the first sentence of the article you have replied to:

watchOS 4 brings several new features to the Apple Watch, including a new flashlight function that lights up the face of the Apple Watch so you can have an extra light when you're digging around in a bag, trying to open a door in the dark, or wherever else you might require a little bit of light.

Wasn’t expecting this feature but it’s aleeady come in handy. Especially the red light version. It’s just enough light to see what you’re doing without bothering other people... kind of like the red flashlights ushers use at theaters.

[doublepost=1506013832][/doublepost]Just be warned, this function sucks battery life out of your watch like nothing else. Used it last night walking my dog. My battery went from 80% to 15% in less than an hour. Works great, bust a battery drainer.

Well white uses all 3 sub pixels, drain would be lower with Red/Green/Blue individually. I would not use blue as that sub pixel only has a fraction of lifespan as the other two though.

I could see the use for a red face when you are assisting in an emergency situation. I have been unlucky enough to have had to do that a few times. Having a quick red light to be able to wave around at night and get peoples attention would not be the worst thing...

Red light also doesn't kill your night vision like other colors. In aircraft they all have red lights for night viewing, so you can still look outside and see other objects in dark skies. Since this is Apple, I'd guess they found out about the night vision thing and included it. JMHO...

I really like this feature. It’s obviously a battery drain, but as I wear my watch as an alarm (I’m deaf, so the vibrate feature works brilliantly)... I use it to illuminate the house when I need to use the bathroom in the middle of the house. The red is bright enough to light the way without disturbing everyone.

Using the flashlight showed me just how bad my watch face is burned into the screen. Shows up easily on the all white background. Makes me a little nervous about getting the OLED iPhone X

Yep me too. Never even considered screen burn for the watch, but put the torch on and there it is!

Haven’t seen this yet... but I’ve only had it for almost a year (series 2). Wonder how prevalent the issue is...? I’m definitely holding off on iPhone X until next iteration anyways... I am still quite happy with my 7plus

Mine is Series 1, bought in the first month of availability. I’m guilty of using the same watch face for that entire time as well so pretty much worst case scenario, but still.

Another nice touch: the light gets much brighter as your rotate the watch face away, and dims down when you look at it again (takes a second).

Also, you can turn off the light quickly by covering it with your hand.

It’s like they actually tried using this feature. Very handy, especially a hands free light to give soft illumination wherever needed.

I'd love for the iPhone to have a display flashlight option, much softer and more controllable light. Especially the new iPhone X.

I've just found out by exploring 3D touch in the iOS11 control centre - a 3D touch on the flashlight lets you select the flashlight brightness. Don't know if that was always there before, but it's cool.

Wow, I didn't know this was happening to anyone. I've got an S0, had it since a month or two after release, its not got any screen burn at all - is there a chance you've got a defective unit?

Have used mine near enough daily, kept the "modular" face and only changed one complication when the battery level was made available.
