I have a late 2011 Macbook Pro' running El Capitan. My magic trackpad 2, works perfectly while wired, but once switched to bluetooth it starts to lag. I have tried to reset the PRAM/SMC, reinstall/re-pair the magic trackpad but the issue still there. I did find complaints about the lag issue on one web regardless of the bluetooth version. I have ordered a 4.0 bluetooth card and hopefully after the replacement of the 2.1 card, the lag will be gone. I was wandering if more users had similar problem and is there a reasonable solution (I do use it flawlessly wired)?
Any input is highly appreciated.

- I use an Early 2011 with upgraded AirPort card to BT 4.0. Magic Trackpad 2 works fine.

Can confirm that El Capitan is required, but for configuration only. I spent all afternoon trying to figure out why the MM2 only showed up as a standard bluetooth mouse on my wife's rMBP. Then I realized she hadn't upgraded to El Cap - once I did that, she was able to use all the functionality.

With that - if you aren't on El Cap there are much better mouse solutions (mice? meece? mouses?) out there than the MM2.

I have a Magic Trackpad 2 connected to a Mid 2011 iMac with Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR and it's working perfect wirelessly. I'm not quite sure why Apple says it requires BT 4.0 ( could be a battery related thing, I haven't had it long enough to test that yet)
How did you pair them?

- The Magic accessories pair automatically if you plug them in once via USB.

Yes, but my Mac is old and only offers Bluetooth 2, so it does work when plugged in, but when I disconnect it stops working and does not connect wirelessly.

Mine originally setup just like JTToft described, and that was under El Cap. I'm guessing it's just very hit and miss. Glad to hear it's working for you!
