Although iOS 10 brings with it a few subtle visual and mechanical changes, some of its alterations to the most-used iPhone software features will probably be pretty easy to spot. One of those is the new Control Center, which has not only received a cosmetic upgrade, but has gotten a few new added abilities as well.

The Control Center, in essence, is no longer a single card stocked with all of the expected iOS features you've become used to seeing (like the flashlight, calculator, and timer) -- it's now a sliding collection of three panels. The first is a basic launchpad of settings like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, the second is dedicated to Apple Music, and the third houses your favorite accessories from Apple's new HomeKit-focused app "Home."

Some of these shuffled-around buttons can make Control Center in iOS 10 a bit discombobulating when you first bring it up, so follow this guide to get a general impression of how to use Control Center, and how to find your favorite features that may not be where they were before.

Are the screenshots from this article in-house? If so, I'm giving a thumbs up for the choice of album. Good taste in music.

If not, I'm giving it a thumbs up anyway, because Rumours is a great listen and slightly ties in with the website name. ;)

EDIT: re-read the author name & usernames on the screenshots. You're the man, Mitch.

I really like that there are Home controls now but I think it was pointless to move music to it's own page.

By taking away the music control they didn't add anything new. The nightshift button is huge now but besides that there is no new functionality added. Now it takes an extra swipe to get to the music controls which is annoying. You would think that with the Music controls on their own page they would give you more options (shuffle perhaps) but instead they just removed the option to "heart" a song and added artwork, which for a mini player is non-essential. I really hope they revert back and just keep the separate page thing for Home controls.

Control center was so much better in iOS9. And the way to like (❤️) music from lock screen and control center, too.
That said, I truly am in love ios10.

I noticed that today, now we have to go to the music app and then hit ... (more) and over from then can we love or dislike it. Before it was so much easier, and I personally have a smart playlist based on "hearted" songs which keeps updating, the extra steps to do the same things are definitely a slight annoyance and my only complaint in iOS 10.

Exactly my thoughts after upgrading yesterday. Where's my "love" button for Music? So I get "My New Music Mix" that's has like 70% of songs I would like to "love", but I have to do like 5 taps (including unlocking phone) just to do that vs. just one tap from the lock screen. And on top of that they buried it further down on watchOS too.
Besides this one minor annoyance, iOS 10 is pretty good, even on my old iPhone 5, soooo looking forward to getting 7 on Friday.

I'm one of those who quite dislike the new control center, because I listen to music a lot and use the cc controls quite often.
The swiping is a nuisance and I didn't get any new features for it, so I don't really see the point of having that extra page. The album art is not worth it.

I think the new control panel is a step down. Everything use to be in one place which worked for me now it's all divided up making too many swipes or gestures just to do the same thing. It also appears no one was using night mode in iOS 9 as now they are giving it a wider space all to its own (make that wasted space) to do the same thing. There a point where going too simplistic is getting a bit child like. Apple thinks we don't know where to go so they try and make it simpler and simplier and starts to get a little juvenile.

Let me summarize:

iOS 9 - swipe up, touch, touch, done.

iOS 10 - swipe up, touch swipe left/right, touch, done

The controls aren't logically grouped either - splitting Airplay sound and Airplay mirroring in particular is just plain dumb.

While I appreciate larger fonts and controls, the whole OS update is cartoonishly large - one of the ugliest iOS versions of all. They've reduced information density and increased the amount of navigation required to complete a task - it's a terribly inefficient UI.

And don't get me started on the music app.

Control Center was almost perfect, this is just stupid, extra swipes for music control and even less options, no no no.

The worst part of iOS 10, IMO.

I would hate it a lot less that it would default to showing the music player if there's audio playing. But iOS 11 really needs to add customization. I never touch Night Shift, AirPlay, AirDrop, or Brightness, and I'd really love a low-power mode toggle.

I don't really care about other stuff, but can someone please explain why the fk the ability to rate/like music was deemed "confusing" enough to be almost removed from iOS??

You mean the
Music App?

It's like somebody from the design team said, "Alright, here's a list of things we need to come up with an interface for." Then they walked up to a whiteboard and wrote:

Songs
Playlists
Artists
Albums

And then they all kind of sat there fidgeting until somebody said, "okay, I'll get right on implementing this… design!"

My guess why the music app fonts are so large compared to other stuff is to help out those who normally need to wear glasses to see the screen clearly due to long sightedness.

Listening to music doesn't require wearing glasses and often glasses are removed to relax. Also outdoor activities are usually done without glasses for far sighted people. And when you're moving around, it's even more difficult to squint at the screen to see it.

That's why I think the music app looks like it does. Young sharp eyed folks don't appreciate the challenges of 50+ year old eyes..... but one day they will. It's inevitable.

these are the reasons I rolled my 6S back to version 9 by the end of the day yesterday. Nothing in iOS 10 is quite compelling enough to make me put up with that crap. I think iOS 9 is the best they've put out so far. A lot of the orientation of the new features in 10 seem disjointed to me.

People being harsh on the visual efficiency of this update, I just don't get it. Its like you don't believe in beauty or something. Design is not just about putting function over form, at all expense. For most users, the holistic approach is much more important. People buy apple because of how it feels, not just because of how it works. And this OS is very very "apple" in that respect. Its a classic embodiment of the apple aesthetic. I feel this bitching about efficiency is really kind of uninspiring. If that's your thing, get one of those phones that runs unix.

What? Beauty is subjective. Just because you like the design doesn't mean we "don't believe in beauty" if we don't like it.

In my humble opinion, certain parts of iOS 10 look goofy and function poorly; it's holistically worse.

So this OS is very Apple in the sense that… people buy Apple because of how it feels?

Its a classic embodiment of the apple aesthetic. I feel this bitching about efficiency is really kind of uninspiring.

I'd take the "bitching" over vapid posts about others not believing in beauty.

If that's your thing, get one of those phones that runs unix.

Ooh, I've been meaning to get an iPhone.

It's form over function, again. Bigger buttons are nice for people who have less-than-good eyes, sure, but at least have an option to get the normal-sized buttons back so I can have my music UI on the same damn screen.

Why does the Night Shift button have to be so huge? There could be place for more buttons for useful settings instead of just this big button...
It took everything I had to prevent this How To from devolving into a thousand-word rant on this particular change.
