Too bad sharing photos through iCloud reduce the resolution to 2048px. I mean I pay for the service, yet recipients of my photos and ones I received aren't full resolution.

Such a shame.

I can’t believe that you can’t add a folder within a folder. Strange.

You can create a folder and fill it with albums.

But since Apple half-ass its own software, you can't put existing albums into such a folder. You have to re-create the album again in the folder, select photos that are already in an existing album, add them, then delete the original album.

You think it would work like making folders with apps. But nope.

What has been driving me crazy is that there's not a shared tab at the bottom any more. My wife and I don't post our children and family photos all over social media because most people don't care about it and it's kinda creepy how many predators there are online. I don't use Facebook but my wife does a little, so the way we share photos with family members is with iCloud. Most everyone has Apple devices, but for those who don't there's still a way to share with a private URL. Anyway, so we use that like our own family social network. If someone in our families wants invited, they just ask and I add them. We can all comment and like photos. It's really easy and we use it several times per day. Now that it's not in a tab it's a bit of a pain to access every time. Is there any way to get the tab back or edit the tabs on the bottom? I remember when iPhone OS first came out it was common to be able to edit bottom tabs. Not sure if that was in the built-in apps or only App Store apps.

I find the memories feature really intrusive. I’ve got pictures from my first marriage in my library because it’s part of my life, but I don’t especially want pictures of it thrust in my face by apples algorithms. All of this social “you must share and show off” nonsense is embarrassing and immature. But no doubt it’s considered “cool” by apples man-child leaders.

Then why aren't these photos in a archive instead of in your main library?

Manually? I used to do that when we were all using iPhoto and digital cameras. Now? I take like hundreds or maybe a thousand of photos each month, I don't have time for that.

I want the ability to label photos within Photos on my iPhone that will automatically be included when the photos are uploaded to iCloud. Also, when will Apple programmers add back the ability to tab from one photo’s label(title) field to the next photo’s label(title) field. You haven’t been able to do that since iPhotos existed. It would save you a lot of time if you had to label a lot of photos.

I’m a Realtor and when I have dozens of photos of a new listing and I import them from my camera or iPhone into Photos I need to label them as quickly as possible. Photos wastes my time by forcing me to use my mouse to select the next photos title field and then start typing. When iPhoto was the photo app you could tab from one photo to the next.

That’s not the ease of use that Apple could and should provide.

Users do it all the time... #HashTag is so popular that sites like Insta and many other social and web sites use it now when people upload pics and links. Apple could have easily allowed tagging or single pic or groups, making them easier to search.

I think if you enter a word in “Description” it will act like a tag.

I like the photos app and use it on my iPad and iPhone X. But getting pictures of my old skool camera into the right iCloud albums is such a pain through www.icloud.com. Also downloading albums on my PC requires me to select each pictures while holding CTRL and then it downloads file by file instead of a ZIP file usually resulting in a few corrupted or files that hang in the download.

I want to give all my money to Apple for iPads, expensive iPhones and services like AppleMusic, iCloud storage etc. But if they don't make great webapps for the 90 percent PC, Linux and chromebook owners they miss out on a lot of extra money. A fast webmail client, web photo solution and webplayer for Apple Music (iTunes is terrrrrrible) are really necessary if you are serious about cloud services in 2018

No unlimited photo/video storage in compressed format - until Apple does this (not holding my breath), I'd find it hard to switch back from Google Photos.

Firstly I wasn’t aware there was an archive feature in photos. Secondly it just seems ridiculous that Apple forces these “features” upon you. It’s the same with the new version of iBooks. Why remove the ability to universally hide iCloud books? All of these changes narrow down the options and take something away.

Don’t get me started on the crippled music app on the watch...

Such a shame.

Oddly, this new sharing method that uses the link in iMessages sends full quality. Shared albums still downscale. Problem is that I can't find a way to make it create the weblink when its just a few photos, then it sends through imessage and downgrades them.

Yup, I'm with others.
I just need a simple photo app that puts everything by date. I don't use cloud, I don't use memories & all that cute crap.
I just need to shoot & store.
Apple just keeps deciding how we use our devices & that is the way it will be. Why not just have some simple settings to turn features off? I don't get the arrogance of them not giving users the choice.
Like someone please tell me why you cannot turn the Burst feature off? I rarely use it. Most often it is used accidentally when a waiter takes 436 images of us at dinner...
Sorry to digress but it's like the actual Photos app, all flashy but very limited functionality.
I've been a Mac user for a looong time & what I've noticed the most is Apple losing what it was once famous for - flexibility & customisation.
Everything is moving from being what was once very 'organic' to be distinctly linear.

Does anyone know if this can be disabled? Like Beats 1, an annoying feature I really don’t want

Apple Photos is a mess.

1. Keep it simple. Camera Roll and Albums.
2. At LEAST let us disable all of the Albums that Apple (1984) thinks we need.
3. Make the photos app smarter. Moving a photo into an Album should remove it from the Camera Roll.

Google messed up it's photo app the same way.

In iOS 12, Apple has introduced some new features to the Photos app that aim to make it easier for you to search, share, and enjoy your photo collection. Here's how to make the most of them.

The most prominent addition in the Photos app is a new For You tab, which replaces the old Memories and Shared tabs and brings together their features - along with any iCloud Shared Albums you may have - in a single scrolling panel.

For You Tab: Sharing Suggestions

Top of the For You tab is where your latest Sharing Suggestions appear. If the app recognizes someone in the photos it will ask if you want to share the collection with them, otherwise an option to "Share with friends?" is shown.

The great thing about sharing photos this way in iOS 12 is that if your friends have any pictures that are from the same event, time, or location, they will also be prompted to send those back to you, allowing you to fill any holes in your collection.

Tap the Sharing Suggestions card and you'll be taken to a screen where you can choose the pictures you want to share. Tap Select and then tap any photos you don't want to include, or choose Deselect All and then tap the ones you want to share.

Choose Next to select people in your contacts that you want to share the pictures with. Tap Share in Messages when you're done - just note that anyone with access to the shared photo link will be able to view the photos.

For You Tab: Memories

Immediately below Sharing Suggestions you'll find Memories, which curates various photos and videos you've taken in the past into specific memory collections. Without any steps required on your part, Memories gives you an automatic homemade movie from these past family gatherings or vacations.

Tap a memory and you'll see a list of all the photos and videos contained in the memory (tap Show More to see more than a summary), the geographic location the pictures were taken, nearby photos, and related memories you might be interested in.

If you press the play button to begin viewing a memory, you can also use a number of customization options to edit it. For more on editing memories in Photos, see our dedicated tutorial.

Note that tapping Select on this page and deleting a photo doesn't just remove it from the memory, but also deletes it from your iPhone and iCloud Library. The last two options at the very bottom of the screen let you favorite the memory or delete it permanently.

If your device supports 3D Touch, you can also hard press on any memory in the For You tab to get a preview of its contents, and then swipe up for options to add it to your favorite memories, delete the memory, or block it.

For You Tab: Shared Album Activity

At the bottom of the For You tab is any Shared Album Activity related to your iCloud account.

This lists iCloud albums shared by you as well as albums shared with you by other users. From here you can view photos and videos, "like" them with a thumbs up, and read comments or add your own.

How to Use Enhanced Search

In iOS 12, the Photos search function in the Search tab is more intelligent than before, so it's easier to find the most relevant photos to you from events, people, or places.

You can also combine multiple search terms to narrow down your results. Simply start typing a person's name, a date, a place, or a word like "cat", "beach", "waistcoat", or "selfie", and the Photos app will offer up similar or identical indexed search terms that you can tap to add to the search field.

[doublepost=1541694168][/doublepost]I just want BASIC features like be able to change file names and sort them myself into albums- or better yet, tag them, export the whole thing onto USB with the tags. All these new features are completely useless for me.

Sorry to bump....anyone found any apps that allow you to index / tag your photos, and see these tags an existing tags in either the app itself or photos app.

I currently index my photos on my Mac, and these sync with photos so I can search by tags, description, etc. I take a lot of sports photos and want to search by opponent or player.

I just d/l HashPhotos (Free) app, and although it allows me to tag photos in that app, I cannot search for tags I’ve added via Mac, nor can I go into Photos app and search tags I added in HashPhotos.

Anyone found an app solution....happy to pay for the app. Does the in-app purchase of HashPhotos have this functionality.

Manually? I used to do that when we were all using iPhoto and digital cameras. Now? I take like hundreds or maybe a thousand of photos each month, I don't have time for that.

Then you should be managing and doing searches of your thousands of photos from a computer, not your phone.
[doublepost=1559342140][/doublepost]Does anyone know WHY Apple doesn't provide for tagging of photos on iPhones natively?

1) tag as you go (as you take pictures and videos)
2) tag a single photo/video from the Photos app
3) tag a selected block of photos & videos
4) preset tag that you toggle on/off from both camera and photos app

I would just like it to default to my camera roll each time I open it. Or, at least open up to albums.

I hate that the photos app has become so complicated. Just give me a simple photo gallery.
